Charred Romaine Salad with Pickled Radishes

The 3Bs spent a fantastic afternoon together! We had lunch then saw a play with Meg's mom and her grandmother's friends, the "EVOPs"! Our lunch was fantastic! We ate a a cute cafe right next door to the Pasadena Playhouse called Elements. I had fried chicken and waffles...amazing! Then we saw Debbie Allen's new play, Twist. It is based on Oliver Twist. The music and choreography were sooo good. It was a perfect Sunday afternoon. Tomorrow....Texas!

 Really really loved this play!

Em was out of town a for a few weeks so I looked after her house. She has an amazing Grill so we went over there to make dinner a few times. This salad was really good. We especially loved the pickled radishes. I made them on their own again as a snack a few days later.
Charred Romaine Salad with Pickled Radishes
For Salad:
1 large head of romaine lettuce
1 Tbsp vegetable oil
1/4 cup buttermilk
1/4 cup sour cream
1 Tbsp red wine vinegar
salt and pepper

For Pickled Radishes:
1 bunch radishes
1 shallot
2/3 cup water
1/2 cup red wine vinegar
2 Tbsp sugar
2 tsp salt

Start with radishes. After washing and trimming leaves/tails, slice very thin.
Slice shallots thin and put radishes and shallots in a bowl.
In a small saucepan stir together water, vinegar, sugar and salt. 
Heat until boils then remove from heat.
Put vinegar mixture into bowl with radishes and shallots. Stir and set in fridge until ready to use.

For the dressing, mix together buttermilk, sour cream, 1 Tbsp vinegar, and season with salt and pepper.
This is sooo yummy!

Rinse lettuce. Cut head into half lengthwise.
Brush with vegetable oil.
Grill for about 2 minutes on each side.

Remove radishes from fridges and drain liquid from the bowl.
I served this salad "Family Style"
We thought it was delicious!!!
