Italiano Steak with Pesto Pasta

Last night we attended a bacon party. We had all kinds of bacon goodies from bacon donuts to duck bacon! My favorite was chocolate covered bacon. This couple has hosted a bacon party for several years, but usually in early August. This year they had to do it later and we all learned yesterday that it turned out to be International Bacon day, totally a coincidence, weird huh?!

I love the tomato butter recipe I made so much that it inspired me to make a yummy steak recipe. It is one of my new favorites.

Italiano Steak with Pesto Pasta

Marinate for Steak:
1/4 cup lemon juice
2 Tbsp olive oil
1 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce 
1 tsp chopped garlic
1/4 tsp dried basil
salt and pepper
1 new york strip steak

Mix up marinate ingredients.
Place steak and marinate in a bag and marinate for at least 6 hours.
For the whole recipe:

2 Tbsp tomato butter (click here for recipe)
basil pesto (recipe below, or you can use store bought)
2 tsp balsamic vinegar
1/2 pound fettuccine
salt and pepper
Basil Pesto:
2 cups fresh basil
2 Tbsp pine nuts
2 cloves garlic
1 Tbsp lemon juice
1/4 cup fresh grated parmesan cheese
1/3 cup olive oil (more or less)
salt and pepper
  
Preheat oven to 350. Roast nuts until toasted (I used some walnuts too).
Place all ingredients except olive oil in a food processor.
Turn on low and slowly drizzle oil in. This is why I don't have an exact measurement, I just keep pouring until it is the right consistency (a little looser than a paste).


Remove steak from marinate. Trim off fat and cut in half. Season with salt and pepper.
Cook and drain pasta.
Stir in half the pesto with the pasta.
Grill the steaks for 2-3 minutes per side.
Top each steak with 1 Tbsp of pesto.
Drizzle each steak with 1 tsp of balsamic.
Top with 1 Tbsp of tomato butter.
Serve with pesto pasta of the side.
